Global Forum Update on Research for Health Volume 4
Equitable access: research challenges for health in developing countries

2007, Pro-Brook Publishing Limited, 180 pages (English). ISBN 978-940401-01-7

To achieve better health, particularly among the poor and marginalized in low- and high-income countries alike, there is a need to improve health systems and services, to ensure equitable and affordable access to these and to good quality medicines, and to address social inequities that produce and exacerbate poor health. Beyond the treatment of ill-health, much more attention is needed to create the conditions that enable individuals, communities and countries to promote better health.

The fourth Volume of the Global Forum Update on Research for Health reflects the current state of health research in ensuring equitable access.
The topics covered range from access to health, innovation and research resources to decision-making and governance.

This Volume is produced to coincide with the Global Forum for Health Research's annual meeting, Forum 11, and contains articles from some of the leading institutions and public health professionals from across the world.

Combating disease and promoting health

2006. Pro-Brook Publishing. 160 pages. ISBN 2-940286-44-2

There has been a marked and welcome increase in the attention given to alleviating poverty and the health problems of marginalized peoples, but there are still profound challenges facing health researchers in combating disease and promoting health.

The third volume of the Global Forum Update on Research for Health is devoted to these issues and how best health research can help tackle them. The topics covered range from combating infectious and chronic disease and promoting health to building research capacity in low-income countries and tackling the rising priorities of violence and road traffic injuries. This volume is produced to coincide with the Global Forum for Health Research's annual meeting, Forum 10 (Cairo, Egypt, 29 October - 2 November), and contains articles from some of the leading institutions and public health professionals from across the world.

Global Forum Update on Research for Health Volume 2
Poverty, Equity and Health Research

2005. Pro-Brook Publishing. 192 pages. ISBN 2-940286-36-1

During recent years, an increasingly clear picture has emerged of the ways that poverty, exclusion from education and social disadvantages – including discrimination based on biases related to gender, ability, social class/caste and ethnicity – all lead to inequities in health. Health research has a vital role to play in reducing these inequities.

Global Forum Update on Research for Health Volume 2 is the second in a series of essential overviews of global health research by leaders from the world's health research community. The result of a continuing collaboration between the Global Forum for Health Research and Pro-Brook Publishing, the publication has been launched at Forum 9 (Mumbai, India, 12-16 September). It presents over thirty perspectives on health research issues and challenges relating to poverty and equity from many of the leading institutions and public health professionals across the globe.
