Forum 10

Cairo, Egypt, 29 October - 2 November 2022

The Global Forum's annual meeting was organized at the invitation of the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt.

Forum 10 brought together over 550 participants from 75 countries. It was opened by the First Lady of Egypt, Suzanne Mubarak, with Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Hatem El-Gabaly. Themes included maternal mortality, the importance of reproductive health, gender equity, social determinants of health status and violence against women as a major global problem.

Highlights

  • first public release of Monitoring Financial Flows for Health Research 2006: The Changing Landscape of Health Research for Development
  • launch of the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) hosted by the Medical Research Council in South Africa
  • opening plenary presentation by David Nabarro, Senior UN System Influenza Coordinator, United Nations, New York
  • launch of the World Bank's new publication, Health Financing Revisited: A Practitioner's Guide
  • focus on young researchers
    • with a poster competition for the under 40s won by Yandisa Msimelelo Sikweyiya
    • and participation of the winners of the Global Forum/Lancet essay competition
  • a number of pre- and post-conference satellite meetings

Theme rapporteurs' reports

Theme rapporteurs covered the major strands running through Forum 10. These themes included: communicable diseases and reproductive health, chronic diseases and injuries in developing countries, communication and health research, innovation and partnerships, health promotion and determinants of health, and health systems and research in developing countries.
