63rd World Health Assembly

The 63rd World Health Assembly, Geneva, Switzerland. 17th-21st May 2010.

Senior health officials from the 193 Member States of the World Health Organization convene in Geneva to discuss current public health issues at the World Health Assembly (WHA).

The 63rd meeting covered the monitoring of the achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals, the pandemic influenza H1N1, the implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005), strategies to reduce the harmful use of alcohol and counterfeit medical products.

Alongside the WHA, the Global Forum for Health Research and the Global Health Council co-hosted a parallel session focusing on innovative funding for health research and development (R&D).

Built on the recommendations of the recent WHO Expert Working Group on R&D Financing, an innovative R&D funding model will be proposed for neglected diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and malaria.

Professor Anthony Mbewu, Executive Director of the Global Forum for Health Research, moderated the session.
