Global Forum keeps research on the WHA agenda

The Global Forum for Health Research was able to keep research for health on the agenda of the World Health Assembly (WHA).

The Global Forum was able to do so despite the fact that the World Health Organization had to postpone discussions on its role and responsibilities in health research to 2010 due to the Novel influenza A (H1N1) virus.

The following statements highlighting the essential role of research and innovation for health were delivered at the WHA:

Item 12.4 : Primary Health Care, including health system strengthening
Item 12.5: Commission on Social Determinants of Health
Item 12.6: Monitoring of the achievement of the health-related MDGs
Item 12.7: Climate change and health (N.B. This statement was unable to be delivered to the Assembly because of time constraints.)
Item 12.8: Public health, innovation and intellectual property: global strategy and plan of action

The 62nd World Health Assembly was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, 18 - 22 May 2009.
