RealHealthNews is an independent print and web magazine about the connections between health research and policy-making worldwide, in action for the world’s poorest.
In each issue, researchers and policy-makers for health throughout the world tell the real, hard story of creating evidence-informed policy and action that can change people's lives for the better.
As a catalyst and neutral advocate for evidence-informed policy, the Global Forum has provided seed funding for the development of RealHealthNews for many years - until May 2008 - nurturing its increasing visibility and range of partners. Issue no 0 was launched at the Ministerial Summit on Health Research in 2004, which took place in conjunction with Forum 8 of the Global Forum for Health Research.
Making policy decisions informed by evidence ensures that investments in the health of people are made in the most efficient and effective way possible. Yet, low- and middle-income countries face obstacles to evidence-informed decision-making, including: lack of data and evidence; chronic lack of resources; complex health systems; insufficient communication between researchers and policy-makers; and limited technical capacity.
The stories in RealHealthNews aim to provide policy-makers in low- and middle-income countries with hands-on approaches and solutions to their problems, learning from other policy-makers in low- and middle-income countries.
Susan Jupp, Head of External Relations at the Global Forum, is member of the Editorial Advisory Board of RealHealthNews and so are the Global Forum's Foundation Council members Ravi Narayan and Alejandra López-Gómez.
