Report Launch

The Global Forum for Health Research reviews and reflects on a landmark event in its report from Forum 2009, ‘Innovating for the Health of All’.

Over 900 key stakeholders from over 80 countries convened in Havana, Cuba to discuss research for health and identify priorities and solutions.

Ministers of Health, researchers, policy-makers, public health experts, professionals from the private sector, activists and the media from the global health arena shared their experiences of innovation in health settings.

“Once again the Global Forum for Health Research demonstrated its unique role in the global health community,” said Professor Anthony Mbewu, Executive Director of the Global Forum for Health Research, in his foreword to the report.

The Global Forum for Health Research highlights the growing need for cancer care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in a ‘Call to Action’ paper published online in the Lancet (August 16, 2010).

Once considered a disease which primarily affects developing nations, cancer is now a leading cause of death and disability for poorer populations. Almost two-thirds of the 7.6 million cancer deaths in the world occur in LMICs.
